We arrived at CDG from Bangkok in the early morning hours and headed straight to the train station to store our bags. We had only four hours to soak up as much of the city as possible before our speed train to Luxembourg departed, so we immediately headed to the winding, cobblestoned streets of the Marais. We stopped at a Jewish bakery where we picked up challah and breakfast pastries to fuel us on our urban walk. It was rainy and overcast but romantic and utterly picturesque nevertheless. We walked through the Marais to the Ile Saint Louis, past Notre Dame and over to Saint Germain. We stopped to dry off and warm up in a cafe with some chocolat chaud. From there, we walked along the banks of the Seine and crossed at the Ponte des Arts, weaving through the arches of the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens, treasuring distant views of the Eiffel Tower. From there, we hopped in a taxi and headed back to the Marais for the legendary Paris falafel stand LA's du Falafel. While in line, a hasidic Jewish man approached Davey and asked him if he was Jewish. Dave responded that his dad was Jewish and the man responded, "Whatever you got, you got- I like it". An interesting and funny interaction for sure. We scarfed down our falafels and headed to the train station for a scenic two hour train through the French countryside to Luxembourg, our new home.
